We know that every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy wants to be able to make the best choice for her pregnancy.
In order to do that she needs these three important things:
First, she needs to know the pros and cons of every possible choice that is in front of her. She needs facts that are clear and understandable. She needs those facts presented in a compassionate and caring way that relieves her anxiety rather than increases it. She needs unbiased professional help without Judgement, without Agenda, without Politics.
Second, she needs to know there are people who want to support her and encourage her today as well as into the future. Her decision could have lifelong impact and she will need to know there are resources available to her whenever she needs them, regardless of her choice.
Third, she needs an advocate that will walk with her through her choice. Making the best choice for her pregnancy can be hard if she is alone. Her advocate will be with her if she chooses to terminate the pregnancy. Her advocate will be with her if she decides to continue the pregnancy and parent. And her advocate will be with her if she chooses to place her child for adoption. No guilt, no agenda, no politics, no manipulation.
Over the last 30 years, we have informally interviewed hundreds of people who leaned toward the pro-choice label.
Not all, but many of them said that they didn’t know if abortion was something they themselves would participate in, but they didn’t feel it was their right to impose that belief on someone else. They felt that the choice was the woman’s to make. Our experience is that many people in the U.S. today have this or a similar philosophy.
When asked what a woman facing a pregnancy choice should have available to her, many said, ‘she should have someone available to her that can explain all her choices, pro and con, without any bias or hidden agenda. She should have help provided in any of the medical, relational, economic, educational, and/or housing concerns or obstacles she is facing. She should know that everything she says and does is held in strict confidence and without judgement. And she should have someone who will build and maintain a personal, caring, and compassionate relationship with her, regardless of her choice.’
